My fabulous vacation in the US - Part I

End of October and beginning of November I spent a wonderful vacation in the US. It started innocently enough with the wish of every quilter - to see the International Quilt Festival in Houston and from there it grew until it was a two weeks long journey to Texas, Louisiana and New York City.

I went with a friend who likes the same things I do, laughs about the same things and tries to avoid the same things. And it turned out even better than we thought - we were absolutely on the same wavelength.

We flew into Houston where we rented a car.

And on the first day there we did what we really came for ;-) - we visited the NASA Space Center.

The next day we spent on the Quilt Festival, an enormous show with breathtaking quilts and a vendor mall where you really could find everything you wished for. You can read more about the Festival at www.quiltartnews.com.

Friday was full of quilts too and we even drove out to the Texas Quilt Museum in LaGrange to see the show there - of course the quilts there were stunning too.

And it was Halloween so we Europeans got treated to a real American Halloween with decorations, trick-or-treating kids and lot of candy.

As we live in the middle of Europe, far away from the sea we had to go out to the ocean (spending some time but not too much money at Hobby Lobby on the way).

In Galveston we not only had a very tasty lunch (with lots of crabs) but also saw a lot of seabirds, pelicans and even wild dolphins.

What a great day!

If you want to follow our journey to New Orleans come back tomorrow.
